Deeply cut canyons, cool and lush with desert greenery contrast richly with the deep reds and purples of polished, mineral-streaked rock. Fossils, leftover from warm ancient seas punctuate the remote trails for those with a keen eye and the ability to imagine a much different landscape 90 million years ago. As with all our trips, we strive to enhance your understanding and appreciation of the Colorado Plateau. Information on the geology, natural and cultural history, flora and fauna, and the many complex issues facing this beautiful landscape are subjects of interest we hope to promote. The passion we have for this desert burns bright in the eyes of our guides. Allow us the opportunity to share the beauty, magic and history of this exceptional place, our home. Fisher TowersEasy HikingLength: 4 Miles (3-4 hours) Season: All Year The majestic rock and mud formations of this bizarre area feature some of the tallest free-standing rocks in the U.S. With more than a dozen large spires, The Fishers have the reputation of not only the largest concentration of rock towers, but also boasts The Titan, one of the largest towers in the West, looming 900' above our hiking trail. Gothic fluting and weird gargoyles adorn the summits of these extraordinary features. Prized by rock climbers (see Ancient Art) this trail is casual as winds its way beneath these rock beasts. Steady elevation gain promises a magnificent view point of the entire Fisher Valley, the Colorado River and the Fisher Towers. Afternoon sunsets here are ethereal! Difficulty: Easy hiking over uneven terrain. Out and back with a total elevation gain of 400'. Price: $85 per person (3 person minimum*); Contact us for group prices! Departure Times: 8 am & 4 pm, or call to arrange special times Fiery Furnace in Arches National ParkEasy or Moderate HikingLength: 2 miles (3-4 hours) Season: All year This baffling place is one of the most unique and amazing places in this desert or anywhere else on planet Earth! Ribs, arches, fins, and spires abound in the canyons of this quiet sea of red-and-yellow banded rock. Suitable for exploration year-round, our route snakes up over and through the confusing slot canyons and subway-like passageways. The many natural wonders often encourage discussions about the flora, wildlife, and geology of this amazing and fascinating place. Stunning! Difficulty: Easy to moderate hiking, an excellent introduction to “scrambling” on desert sandstone, which requires the use of your arms and hands to help you through or over various sandstone terrain. Mary Jane CanyonModerate HikingLength: 9.5 miles (7-8 hours) Season: All Year This full-day hike begins a short distance from the Sorrel River Ranch and follows a lush and verdant stream up canyon for a little more than 4 miles. The stream keeps us wet and cool as we pass through storm-cut red narrows, scurry over short cascades, and even play in a natural water-slide. The double-streamed waterfall that ends the passage is a wonderful place for a cool dip and to relax for lunch. The more adventurous will want to take advantage of the chance to rappel over this waterfall, immersing themselves in both the refreshing water and the fun this canyon hike offers. Difficulty: Easy to moderate hiking for a full day, scrambling over boulders hiking in and around the creek, optional wet rappel! La Sal Mountains - Hiking & Peak AscentsEasy, Moderate, or Advanced HikingLength: 2-6 miles (5-8 hours) Season: Summer only The La Sal Mountains are an island mountain range that pushes up through the surrounding desert to elevations just under 13,000'. With nearly 8000' of elevation change from the desert, these beautiful mountains offer a cool reprieve from the valley temperatures—just a short drive from Moab. Whether you're looking for an easy hike to enjoy mountain lakes and meadows, or a work-out that will take you to the summits of the peaks, we can customize a trip just for you.
